Large numbers of people gather together and live in cities. Cities contain many buildings that are necessary for people's lives from daily living to work and entertainment. These include homes, public buildings, schools, hospitals, offices, factories, community centers, movie theaters, and shopping centers among others. These buildings are created under a variety of concepts to be used by a variety of people. Building these buildings is also part of Kumagai Gumi's work. For all buildings, for whatever application or purpose they are built, Kumagai Gumi has a common concept that runs through all of the work the company is involved with. That is to be able to use the building safely and without worry while also reflecting the wishes of the orderer and pursuing ease of use for the people using the building.

Strong Buildings
For weak buildings the pillars, girders, and walls are made stronger and for hard buildings the structure is made softer to create buildings that are earthquake resistant by allowing them to absorb and cut the shaking during an earthquake.
  • Technological Points
    • "Strong Buildings" PointsTo realize stronger buildings, for new buildings a variety of construction methods including hybrid construction methods that combine the right combination of reinforced concrete and steel frame, seismic isolation construction methods that employ seismic isolation layers in the foundation and elsewhere to reduce swaying during an earthquake, and vibration control construction methods that incorporate vibration control systems into the frame to reduce the shaking during an earthquake are employed, and for existing buildings antiseismic reinforcement and upgrading work is conducted.

Supporting Buildings
Building foundations must be built to resist the seismic motion applied to the entire building and the water pressure from groundwater in the ground.
  • Technological Points
    • Supporting Buildings PointsStrong foundations that "support the building" are achieved by employing a variety of technologies including ground liquefaction prevention, ground bearing power enhancement technology, foundation structures that mitigate earthquake damage, technologies that suppress foundation sinking and deformation from seismic horizontal forces, and technologies to prevent building lift up in ground with high water levels or from earthquakes.

Easy to Live In Buildings/Easy to Use Buildings
Many of the issues relating to sound, vibration, and wind that are invisible to the eye are difficult to resolve after the building has been completed, so these must be predicted from the planning stage using simulations and testing and then the corresponding resolutions must be proposed.
  • Technological Points
    • Easy to Live In Buildings/Easy to Use Buildings PointsBuildings that are easy to live in and easy to use by many people are achieved using a wide range of technologies including technology for visualizing sound and vibration, which are invisible to the eye, effectiveness simulation technology, technologies that greatly reduce the transmission indoors of outside noise, technologies that reduce the trouble caused by noise between residences, and technologies that reduce the wind whistling sound caused by balconies.

Building Energy Conservation
The Building Energy Efficiency Act enacted in April 2017 further requires society to reduce energy use and to use energy more efficiently.
  • Technological Points
    • Building Energy Conservation PointsThorough building energy conservation can be achieved by making maximum use of passive techniques (thermal insulation, solar radiation shielding, use of daylight, natural air circulation, etc.) during the building planning stage, and by increasing the hard to improve building frame and building shell performance in addition to integrating highly efficient equipment, using recyclable energy, and creating energy through solar power generation and other means.
