This road tunnel is located between Suzumi Town, Kanazawa City and Shinjo, Nonoichi Town on the Kanazawa Sotokan Mountain-side Expressway (26.4 km), and it serves the role of mitigating urban traffic congestion and improving access to surrounding cities. Because there are roads and residential areas directly above, so the paramount issue was preventing the ground surface from sinking. In addition, because tunnel construction on top of an eye-glass-shaped twin tunnel is rare, it attracted much attention from many areas for its engineering.
