Overview of the Eco-First System

The "Eco-First System" was created by the Ministry of the Environment in April 2008. This system involves companies promising the Minister of the Environment to conduct environmental conservation initiatives such as global warming countermeasures, waste and recycling measures, and the Minister of the Environment certifies that those companies are conducting advanced and unique business activities that lead the industry in the field of the environment.

The "Eco-First Promise" of Kumagai Gumi

Kumagai Gumi was first certified as an "Eco-First company" in the construction industry in June, 2010.
We strive to fulfill our societal responsibilities as a company in the construction business via six initiatives for achieving a sustainable society, such as identifying the environmental impact that can occur via our business and preventing it where possible.We've updated The "Eco-First Promise" April 2022 for the third time.

We take measures for climate change and promote the transition of a low-carbon society via the construction business.

Our target is 100% reduction of Scope 1+2, by 2050.

・Emissions targets are set based on the premise of sales and the ratio of civil
engineering work and building work at the time of target planning.

We've been maintaining to join to the RE100 initiative, and SBT certification.
It is going to shift to renewable energy from all energy we use business activity.
We are working to reduce CO2 emitted from the fuel saving operation of heavy machinery and vehicles, utilize of renewable energy.
We reduce CO2 emissions throughout the product lifecycle by utilizing ZEB and energy-saving technologies.
We contribute to CO2 emissions by promoting wooden construction, renewable energy, and forest conservation projects.
We will contribute to the resilience of the nation with technologies such as unmanned construction against disasters that are becoming more severe due to global warming.
We will quantitatively grasp the CO2 reduction effect and provide information to stakeholders.

We promote the Formation of a Circulating Society at our business.

Kumagai Gumi has set a target of reducing our mixed construction waste discharge rate to 2.0% or less by taking action to cut mixed waste on the way to achieving zero discharge, which is a specific issue laid out in our ESG Initiative Direction. We are focusing on promoting 3R practices (reduce, reuse, recycle), thorough separation of plastic waste, and promotion of green purchasing.

We strive for a Society that coexist with nature, and promote initiatives with consideration for biodiversity

Kumagai Gumi complies with laws regarding the conservation of the natural environment and actively conducts design, construction, technical development, and social contribution initiatives based on our "Policy for Biodiversity."
We assess about biodiversity at our all construction sites when we carry out construction. We conserve for biodiversity and consider with sustainability.
We are promoting the development of technologies such as biotopes.

We will strive to develop, improve, and disseminate environmentally friendly technologies.

By fiscal 2025, we will develop a total of 25 or more environmentally friendly technologies, including decarbonization technology, and make a total of 10 or more press releases.

Participate in environmental conservation activities in local communities.

We actively carry out "Kumagaigumi Smile Project" that is our original social contribution platform. We participate and contribute environmental conservation activities in local communities.
We support that children who will lead the next generation learn how to create a sustainable society.

We disclose environmental information, for building up partnership with our stakeholder.

We timely disclose environmental performance, and its progress. We respect for stakeholder engagement and strive building up partnership with our stakeholder.
